Performance
A young prince wants to marry the daughter of a country farmer. The farmer, who believes that the young man does not know what truth is, refuses. To marry his daughter, the farmer puts a condition before the prince - he will have to travel the world in search of the spoken truth. Jean-Claude Carrière’s drama, a simple and humorous story, but at the same time full of meaning and hidden messages, was inspired by the written and spoken fairytales and legends of the world, and enriched, quite simply, with various philosophic theories.
“Young Princ and the Truth is intended for audiences between the ages of 6 and 16, which doesn’t mean that it will not appeal to younger or older theatregoers. This wide communicative range is the result of the play’s fairytale content, its universal theme – the search for truth, a syncretism of different genres, as well as a “simplified”, but, at the same time, modern staging. A dramatic text in a postmodernist tone, written by renowned French dramatist and screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière, is a compilation of eastern fairytales, philosophies, Sufism, as well as artistic and literary references and associations, all weaved together in a compact and concise dramatic union. The text was a literary foundation that enabled Italian directress and versatile theatre artist Anna Redi to put in the forefront of the play, alongside minimalist theatrically visual, acoustical and musical elements, the actors’ performance, and activate the overall potential of their expressions on stage.
In this way, with contributions from the rest of the creative team, a blend of youth and experience, and the devotion of a diligent cast (Miroljub Mijatović, Hazim Begagić, Snežana Marković, Siniša Vidović), whose interpretations in the production are admirable, we have created an outstanding theatre production, which, alongside an aesthetic and artistic, also has an educational effect.” (Hasan Džafić, dramaturge)
