THE OFF MESS PROGRAM BEGINS 15 OCTOBER WITH AN EXHIBITION BY BRACO DIMITRIJEVIĆ
The 50th edition of the MESS International Theatre Festival will also be host to a diverse accompanying program called OFF MESS, which will, between 15 and 31 October 2010, present numerous concerts, exhibitions, launches, video-screenings, plays, to complement the celebratory mood of this year's 50th MESS.
“It is our special pleasure that the Festival's accompanying OFF MESS program will be opened by an exhibition by our most significant internationally acclaimed artist, Braco Dimitrijević, entitled “Future Post History”, which was up till now presented only to the visitors of the Venice Biennale,” said Nihad Kreševljaković, the executive producer of the MESS Festival, pointing out that this year’s MESS accompanying programs would be the most diverse they have ever been. On the occasion of this special anniversary of the MESS, the Ars Aevi Gallery and Braco Dimitrijević, in cooperation with the City of Sarajevo and the Sarajevo Canton, have decided to organize the exhibition at the Vijećnica (City Hall), Sarajevo’s main historical and cultural monument. At the same time, on the top floor of the venue, there will also be an exhibition of the photographs of Zijah Gafić, and the launch of his book “In search of a lost identity.”
Among the many events planned in the OFF MESS program, we must point out the programs dedicated to the memory of great directors and theatre artists, such as Giorgio Strehler, Klaus Michael Gruber and Aillaud Gilles... OFF MESS will also present to audiences the play “Corridors – Yellow, Purple, Blue,” set by the Integration Workshop from Serbia, which is the result of an idea for people with disabilities to be the immediate participants and makers of theatre works. Also taking place will be Part 2 of Anna Newel’s workshop, “We Are Not Afraid,” as part of the Belfast Sarajevo Project, which was first introduced at this year’s Memory Module. “A very important part of the MESS Festival is also its visual identity, the work of the designer team at the FABRIKA Agency, which has created this identity for the Festival for the past 13 years. It is our great pleasure to be able to also show you an exhibition of MESS Festival posters from 1997 to the present, which will be organized at the JAVA Gallery between 18 and 31 October 2010,”, announced Kreševljaković.
This important milestone year for the MESS will present audiences 50 theatre productions in both the official and accompanying programs, as well as many other events.
