The 49th Festival to stage Performances in Gorazde and Srebrenica
Along with Sarajevo and Zenica, the 49th edition of the MESS International Theatre Festival will this year also be visiting the towns of Goražde and Srebrenica, where it will perform plays from the Children MESS Program. Thus, young theatregoers in this town will have the pleasure of seeing Spanish play “Soapmaking Sense”, as well as “Young Prince and the Truth”, a co-production of the Zenica Bosnian National Theatre and Italian theatre groups Chiaradanza and Stabile Mercadante.
“Soapmaking Sense” is a fantastic combination of the worlds of imagination and reality, which manifests itself visually in the form of incredible soap bubbles, and is a play both children and adults will enjoy. Furthermore, Luis Bevia possesses a unique talent for games, and for creating a world made up of water and soap. “I am aware of the situation in Goražde and Srebrenica, and I hope that my play will bring joy to the younger viewers, but also appeal to adults”, said Bevia at today’s press conference.
The play “Young Prince and the Truth” has been produced for child and teen audiences between the ages of 6 and 16, but will certainly appeal to younger and older theatregoers alike. The play’s wide communicative range is the result of its fairytale content, its universal theme – the search for truth, a syncretism of different genres, as well as a simplified, but, at the same time, modern staging.
The MESS’s guest performances in Goražde will, like last year, be organized through the already traditional cooperation of the Festival and the Goražde Centre of Culture. Furthermore, as MESS Executive Producer Nihad Kreševljaković pointed out, “We are especially pleased to organize performances of plays in the Children MESS Program in Srebrenica, in cooperation with the Cooperazione Italiana, that is, within a pilot project of support for communication in the process of the social and cultural development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.” Kreševljaković added that the MESS Festival particularly wishes to make its activities in Srebrenica an integral and vital part of the Festival, and believes that the Festival’s cooperation with the Cooperazione Italiana will continue in the coming years.
