GRAND PRIX for the MESS festival
Yesterday, the MESS Festival received a letter stating the initiative to award the Festival a Grand Prix. The letter was signed by twenty European theatre artists.

The play 100 MINUTES directed by TOMAŽ PANDUR was the final play in the competition programme of this year's MESS
Last night at 7.30 p.m., at the National Theatre in Sarajevo, the final play in the Competition Programme of this year's MESS was performed. 100 Minutes by the Slovenian director Tomaž Pandur is a play inspired by the characters of F. M. Dostoevsky. The audience graded this play with an 8,6.

The play GILGAMESH performed at the Bosnian National Theatre
The play "Gilgamesh" by the Turkish director Ragip Yavuz was performed last night at the Bosnian National Theatre in Zenica. The sold out hall of the Zenica Theatre had the opportunity to see this version of the old epic as modernised and adapted by Zeynep Avci. The audience gave this play a mark of 8.

TAYLOR'S DOLLS won the audience over
On the 28th and 29th of October, the Youth Theatre in Sarajevo hosted the play Taylor's Dolls performed by the Gecko Theatre of Great Britain and directed by Al Nedjari. Taylor's Dolls are a truly interesting example of physical theatre which got the audience literally on their feet during both performances. The audience graded this play with a 9.

The play DREAMS OF EXILE by the Russian director KAMA GINKAS was performed at the National Theatre in Sarajevo
Last night at the Sarajevo National Theatre, the play "Dreams of Exile" by the Russian director kama ginkas was performed This play originated on the basis of themes derived from the opus of Marck Chagall. At the end of the play, the audience were on their feet, cheering the actors and the director with standing ovations. A very good reception of this play by the audience is confirmed by their mark of 9,2.

Standing ovations for the REBELLION AT THE NATIONAL THEATRE
The play “Rebellion at the National Theatre” written and directed by Haris Pašović was performed last night at the National Theatre in Sarajevo. The audience enjoyed a magnificent and unusual set design and dramatic form, but also in the performances by young Bosnian-Herzegovinian actors. The exceptionally demanding set design is the work of Amir Vuk, Amela Vilić was put in charge of the costumes, and the music was composed by Edin Zubčević.

The German play "It Is Dangerous to Think about Everything That Comes to Mind" directed by Rudi Heusermann was performed last night at the National Theatre in Sarajevo at 7.30 p.m. Admirers of the writing of Danil Harms could enjoy last night's interesting adaptation of his miniatures. The play provoked interesting reactions from the audience, which was also the main topic of today's press conference and Round Table. The audience graded this play with a 6.

The play “Hamlet.Dreams” was performed at the Bosnian National Theatre in Zenica and the first repeat performance of “Adam Geist” was performed at the Sarajevo Vijećnica/Town Hall
The play “Hamlet.Dreams”, by the Ukrainian director Andriy Zholdak, was performed in front of a large audience last night at the Bosnian National Theatre in Zenica. We saw “Hamlet” as a series of dreamlike, spirited images which only sporadically had any connection to Shakespeare’s text. Zholdak’s exciting, artistically and musically attractive play is his private vision of “Hamlet”, which provokes numerous free associations in the audience and inspires their imagination. The audience awarded this play a grade of 9.

The audience had the opportunity to watch two plays last night, PENTHESILEA and HELVER’S NIGHT, as part of the competition programme of MESS
The play “Penthesilea”, by the French director Alain Milianti, was performed last night at the National Theatre in Sarajevo, beginning at 7.30 p.m., as part of the competition programme of MESS. This play has been staged in co-operation with students of the Russian Conservatory of Dramatic Arts Saratov. At 10 p.m., after a short break, the play “Helver’s Night”, by director Dino Mustafić and starring Mirjana Karanović and Emir Bravo as Karla and Helver, was staged at the Chamber Theatre ’55 in front of a large audience.

The premiere of the play ADAM GEIST held last night in the sarajevan Town Hall
The play “Adam Geist”, by the bosnian director Dino Mustafić, was performed on the 21st of october 2004 in the enchanting ambient of the still unreconstructed Town Hall which dates back to the austrio-hungarian period and which was a library at the time when it was set on fire in 1992, at the beginning of the siege of Sarajevo. This was the only festival premier of this year’s MESS.

The play IVANOV, by the hungarian director Tamas Ascher, was staged in Zenica last night
The play “Ivanov”, by the Hungarian director Tamas Ascher, was staged at the Bosnian National Theatre in Zenica on October 20th, the fourth night of the festival. The audience had the opportunity to enjoy a truly interesting staging of this famous piece by Chekhov.

The play MOLIERE – ANOTHER LIFE was put on last night at the National Theatre in Sarajevo
The play “Moliere – Another Life” directed by Dušan Jovanović was performed at the National Theatre in Sarajevo last night in front of a full house. This play provoked great interest and reactions from the audience which greeted the end of the play with a booming applause and marked it with a grade of 9,6 which is the highest audience mark achieved by a play at the Festival so far.

The play BLOOD ECLIPSE staged in Zenica last night
Last night, as part of the competition programme at the Bosnian National Theatre in Zenica, the audience had the opportunity to see the play "Blood Eclipse" by Ahmed Muradbegović, directed by the young Bosnian-Herzegovinian directress Lajla Penjić-Kaikčija The total score of the audience votes marked this play with a 6,8.

Actress Gordana Boban pronounced the MESS festival officially open
Last night at 7.30 p.m. at the National Theatre in Sarajevo, the 44th MESS International Theatre Festival was pronounced officially open. On this occasion, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian actress, Gordana Boban greeted the audience and the guests who had already arrived and received a hearty round of applause.

MESS festival opening - press conference
On October 17th 2004, the play "Romeo and Juliet" directed by Oskaras Koršunovas and staged at the National Theatre in Sarajevo at 7.30 p.m. will open the 44th MESS International Theatre Festival. On that occasion, the Festival Direction and Press Centre will organise a press conference which will be held on October 17th 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Art Gallery of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

MESS'04 festival tickets
From October 10th to October 15th, tickets will be on sale at the Direction of the MESS Festival in Marshal Tito Street. There will also be a discount of 20% on all tickets purchased during this period, which means that they will cost 8, 9.50 and 12 KM for the National Theatre in Sarajevo and 9.50 KM for all other theatres.

The 44th MESS International Theatre Festival
The 44th MESS International Theatre Festival will be held from the 17th to the 31st of October in Sarajevo and in Zenica. This year, the audience will have the opportunity to see 16 plays and one festival premiere. Participating in the competition programme are theatre companies from Lithuania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, Hungary, France, the Ukraine, Germany, Egypt, Macedonia, Russia, England, Spain, Turkey and Slovenia.
